In the future, humankind has made the first successful jump to the moon. The basic story of VVVVVV takes place in the future, ten years after the events of the anime series. For example, the puzzles themselves are a continuation of the plot in the anime, meaning that the player will find themselves in the same spot they were in before solving the previous puzzle. VVVVV features some interesting puzzles and concepts not present in other puzzle games. It was published in December of 2009 and was inspired by the hit anime series "The Matrix."
